Are there different types of skull fractures or are they all the same?
Yes, there are four different types of skull fractures. They are:
- Basilar fractures – occur at the base of the skull
- Depressed fractures – blunt force trauma causes bone to be displace inward
- Linear fractures – spread through the entire thickness of the skull
- Diastatic fractures – when one fracture line crosses at least one skull suture (most common in infants)
