I recently read that there is a large number of Americans living with a disability caused by a traumatic brain injury. What kinds of disabilities would they be dealing with on a daily basis?

There are close to five million Americans that are currently living with disabilities incurred as a result of a traumatic brain injury (TBI). A TBI can have many short- or long-term effects on daily life of affected individuals like:

  • Cognition: memory, reasoning
  • Sensory: sight, balance
  • Language: communication, expression and understanding
  • Emotion: depression, anxiety, personality changes
  • Physical: paralysis, loss of movement and weakness
