I recently read that there is a large number of Americans living with a disability caused by a traumatic brain injury. What kinds of disabilities would they be dealing with on a daily basis?
There are close to five million Americans that are currently living with disabilities incurred as a result of a traumatic brain injury (TBI). A TBI can have many short- or long-term effects on daily life of affected individuals like:
- Cognition: memory, reasoning
- Sensory: sight, balance
- Language: communication, expression and understanding
- Emotion: depression, anxiety, personality changes
- Physical: paralysis, loss of movement and weakness
